Der a7S III verzichtet auch auf Aufzeichnungszeitbegrenzungen und verfügt über HLG für die direkte HDR-Produktion sowie über S-Log2/S-Log3-Gammaprofile für die erweiterte HDR-Produktion mit Bearbeitung.

Das aktualisierte Sensordesign bringt auch eine verbesserte Autofokus-Leistung durch 759 Phasendetektionspunkte, die eine intelligente Motivverfolgung und einen Echtzeit-Augen-Autofokus bieten, um eine kritische Fokussierung auf sich bewegende Motive in allen Aufnahmemodi zu gewährleisten. Der Sensor und der BIONZ XR-Prozessor ermöglichen außerdem eine beeindruckende Empfindlichkeit mit einem erweiterten Bereich von ISO 40-409600 sowie schnelle Serienaufnahmen mit 10 fps für bis zu 1000 aufeinanderfolgende Rohbilder. Zusätzlich ist auch eine 5-Achsen SteadyShot INSIDE Sensor-Shift-Bildstabilisierung verfügbar, die das Auftreten von Verwacklungen um bis zu 5,5 Blendenstufen minimiert.

Ergänzend zu den Bildmitteln hat Sony auch einige Änderungen am physischen Design der a7S III vorgenommen, einschließlich eines hinteren LCD-Displays mit seitlich offenem Gelenkdesign und einem beeindruckenden elektronischen OLED-Sucher mit 9,44 m Punktgröße. Auch das Menüsystem der Kamera wurde für eine intuitivere Navigation aktualisiert, und das Gehäusedesign trägt zu einer besseren Wärmeableitung für verbesserte kontinuierliche Aufnahmefähigkeiten bei. Zusätzlich unterstützen zwei Speicherkartensteckplätze die Arbeit mit CFexpress Typ A- oder SD UHS-II-Speicherkarten für eine flexible und schnelle Dateispeicherung.
