The RED V-RAPTOR 8K VV + 6K S35 is a compact yet powerful full-frame cinema camera, slightly larger than the RED KOMODO. The V-RAPTOR houses an all-new sensor that delivers multi-format recording capabilities, offering unmatched flexibility for high-end productions.

Capable of capturing in 8K Vista Vision (VV), 6K Super35, 4K, 3K Super16, and anamorphic formats, this camera adapts effortlessly to a wide range of creative needs. Whether you’re shooting feature films, commercials, or high-resolution stills, its multi-format versatility allows for seamless lens integration and optimal framing choices across projects.

The V-RAPTOR features an RF lens mount and comes with a Kippertie RF > PL mount, Metabones RF > F mount and a Canon RF > EF mount.

The V-RAPTOR 8K VV is powered by a cutting-edge 35.4MP full-frame multi-format sensor that delivers exceptional performance and flexibility for high-end productions. With an impressive 17+ stops of dynamic range, this sensor excels in low-light environments and maintains the lowest noise floor of any camera in RED’s lineup, offering remarkable clarity and detail in challenging lighting conditions.

Supporting both 8K Vista Vision (VV) and 6K Super35 formats, the sensor allows filmmakers to choose the best frame size for their creative vision and lens setup, whether shooting immersive widescreen narratives or more intimate frame compositions.

Although the V-RAPTOR does not use a global shutter, its rolling shutter is significantly faster—almost twice the speed of RED’s MONSTRO sensor—drastically reducing motion artifacts and distortion, even during rapid camera movement or when capturing fast action.

Another standout feature is the integration of phase-detection autofocus (PDAF), a game-changer for solo operators and run-and-gun shooting, delivering reliable and responsive focus tracking in dynamic scenes. Complementing the new sensor is a fixed optical low-pass filter (OLPF), which preserves RED’s renowned color science and image quality while helping to manage moiré and enhance overall sharpness.

The camera also features simplified REDCODE RAW compression profiles – HQ (High Quality), MQ (Medium Quality), and LQ (Low Quality) – which align with the most popular settings from RED’s previous DSMC2 generation. Thanks to the sensor’s ultra-high resolution, MQ and LQ are recommended for general use, delivering superb quality with lower data rates and faster workflows. HQ remains the go-to choice for visual effects and maximum image integrity, offering incredible detail for heavy post-production work.

With data rates ranging from approximately 180 MB/s (LQ) to 360 MB/s (HQ), the V-RAPTOR enables you to plan your media and storage efficiently, without compromising on creative control or image quality.
