Aputure STORM 400x Tunable White LED Light with BLAIR Engine

The Aputure STORM 400x is a compact 400 W point-source LED that delivers high-quality light from 2500 to 10,000 K. With its separate control box, IP65 weather sealing and V-mount battery option, it works as a key, fill or backlight for interviews, commercials and music videos, in the studio or on location.

BLAIR Engine: LED light without compromise

A conventional bi-color light only mixes warm and cool white LEDs. The BLAIR Engine instead combines blue, lime, amber, indigo and red emitters (CRI and TLCI 95+, SSI 87). Output stays almost the same across the range: with the 35° reflector at 1 m, it delivers 61,600 lux at 3200 K and 64,600 lux at 5600 K. Full green/magenta correction across the ASC MITC range helps you match fluorescent tubes, LED practicals or other fixtures. In HSIC+ and x,y mode you also get saturated colors, for example a warm sunset or sodium-vapor look without gels.

Power: AC or two V-mount batteries

The lamp head connects to the control box with the 5-pin head cable. The control box runs on AC power (100 to 240 V, 500 W max. power draw) or on two V-mount batteries (14.4 or 14.8 V). A single battery isn’t enough. How much output you get on batteries depends on their continuous discharge current: each battery needs at least 10 A for 50 % and 20 A for full power (12 A for 60 % and 15 A for 75 %). If the batteries can’t deliver the current you set, the light’s protection circuit kicks in. The included clamp mounts the control box directly on the light stand.

Control, effects and fan

You can control the light from the control box, via DMX/RDM (5-pin in/out) or wirelessly via the Sidus Link app over Bluetooth or via CRMX, both with up to 100 m range. Several units can be linked in Lead/Follow mode over DMX. Dimming runs from 0 to 100 % with four dimming curves, and there are nine built-in effects, including lightning, fire, TV and paparazzi. For sound-critical takes, Medium fan mode runs at 29 dBA and still allows full output (up to 35 °C ambient). Silent turns the fan off but limits output to 45 W.

Modifiers, mounting and weather

The ProLock Bowens mount locks modifiers firmly in place, so heavier Fresnels and large softboxes don’t wobble. The Aputure CF7 Fresnel with barn doors (15 to 40°) is designed for this light. The yoke fits baby stands (16 mm spigot) and, with its 28 mm pin, junior receivers.
