Send one audio feed wirelessly to several people on set with this digital UHF kit from Deity. The DBTX transmitter sits at your mixer or recorder, and the three DIFB receivers feed the mix to in-ear headphones, for example for the director, script supervisor and client. This kind of wireless monitoring is called IFB, and THEOS uses the same UHF system as Deity’s wireless mic kits.
Frequencies
The kit includes two antenna sets, color-coded by the antenna cap:
- Red: best between 608 and 630 MHz, usable from 550 to 694 MHz
- Yellow: best between 733 and 758 MHz, usable from 694 to 790 MHz
If you want to work on a different frequency within the THEOS range, let us know when you book and we’ll give you the matching antennas.
Getting the feed in
Plug the DBTX into the main or sub output of your mixer and set its input to line level. The kit has what you need for the common outputs: the C12 locking 3.5 mm cable for a 3.5 mm output, the RX-Link cable together with the XLR female-to-female adapter for an XLR output, and the RX-Link cable with the 6.5 mm TRS to XLR adapter for a 6.5 mm TRS output. It is the same DBTX as in our THEOS 2-channel kit, here working as the IFB transmitter. Any number of DIFB receivers can listen to one DBTX.
Setting up on set
Put the IFB on a different frequency block than your talent’s wireless mics, or at least 10 MHz away from them. Keep the DBTX at least 20 cm from your mic receivers, ideally on the outside of the sound bag, so the IFB signal doesn’t interfere with your main wireless.
The DIFB receivers
Each DIFB scans for nearby THEOS transmitters and pairs automatically. With voice prompts on (the default), it announces the channel name in the headphones, so the listener doesn’t have to look at the display. Up to 20 frequencies can be stored and selected with the knob, which lets a receiver switch between the mix and, say, a single THEOS wireless mic. Press the knob three times to lock the receiver. After that, only the volume can be changed. Two antennas give true diversity reception, and the locking 3.5 mm headphone jack (mono) keeps the earphones from being pulled out. Latency is 6.3 ms. If someone prefers their own Bluetooth headphones, they can pair them directly with a DIFB.
Power
The transmitter and receivers each run on two AA batteries or via USB-C. The DIFB runs about 15 hours on lithium AA cells, 10 hours on alkaline and 9 hours on NiMH. Set the battery type in the menu so the level display is accurate.
