The Sony FE 100mm f/2.8 Macro GM OSS is Sony’s first G Master macro lens for full-frame E-mount. On its own it reaches 1.4x magnification, beyond the usual 1:1 life-size limit, so insects, jewelry, textures or product details fill the frame. At normal distances it is a 100mm short telephoto for portraits and close-ups.
Macro without extras
The minimum focus distance is 26 cm, which leaves about 9 cm between the front of the lens and your subject at full magnification. With Sony’s 1.4x or 2x teleconverter you get up to 2x or 2.8x and more working distance. You can rent the Sony SEL20TC 2x teleconverter from us separately. The focus range limiter (26 to 70 cm, 50 cm to infinity or full range) stops the AF from hunting through the whole range.
Autofocus and stabilization
Four XD linear motors drive the focus. In AF-S, focus is up to 1.9x faster than on the older FE 90mm f/2.8 Macro G, and the drive is extremely quiet. Optical SteadyShot helps with handheld close-ups and works together with in-body stabilization on Sony cameras that offer it. Many macro shooters still focus by hand: the focus mode switch and full-time DMF let you take over at any time.

Image and build
The 11 rounded aperture blades keep out-of-focus highlights round. The lens is dust and moisture resistant, has a fluorine-coated front element and a 67 mm filter thread.
