Blazar Mantis 1.33x Anamorphic Lens Set (25mm/35mm/50mm/75mm/100mm) - PL or E Mount

The Blazar Mantis lenses are lightweight full-frame anamorphic primes with a 1.33x squeeze. This set gives you five focal lengths from 25 to 100 mm. At 670 to 790 g per lens they suit compact cinema cameras and small crews who want the anamorphic look without heavy glass.

The look of a 1.33x squeeze

A 1.33x lens squeezes the image less than a classic 2x anamorphic. On a 16:9 sensor, the desqueezed image comes out at about 2.39:1 widescreen without cropping the sides. On a full-frame 3:2 sensor you get about 2:1. Blazar uses a 14-blade oval iris so out-of-focus highlights take on the oval shape familiar from higher-squeeze anamorphics. Flares have an amber tint.

Consistent across the set

All five lenses share an 80 mm front diameter, a 77 mm filter thread and 180° of focus rotation. When you swap lenses, your matte box, filters and follow focus stay where they are. Focus and iris gears are 0.8 mod. The 35, 50 and 75 mm open to T2.0, the 25 and 100 mm to T2.4. Close focus ranges from 0.38 m on the 25 mm to 0.67 m on the 75 and 100 mm, so the 25 mm also works for tight shots in small spaces.

Mounts

Blazar designed the Mantis with interchangeable mounts. We rent the set in PL or E mount: PL for cinema cameras with a PL mount, E mount for Sony full-frame cameras such as the FX3, FX6 or FX9 without an adapter.

Good to know

The lenses are fully manual and have no electronic contacts, so there is no autofocus and no lens data in the metadata.
