Description

The Deity C23 connects a Deity TC-1 timecode box to the multi port of a Sony FX3, FX30, a1 or a7S III. The camera writes the timecode into the clip metadata, so both audio channels stay free and you don’t have to convert audio timecode in post.

Setup

In the camera’s TC/UB menu, set Time Code Make to Preset and Time Code Run to Free Run, and set the TC-1 output to L-Out with the same frame rate as the camera. Sony shows rounded frame rates in the menu: 24 stands for 23.98 and 30 for 29.97. The a1 needs firmware 2.01 or later, the a7S III firmware 3.0 or later. The locking right-angle 3.5 mm plug stays securely in the TC-1, and the hook-and-loop pad attaches the TC-1 to the camera, taking strain off the multi port. Leave the cable connected while you shoot. The C23 is made for the Deity TC-1.

Don’t forget to book the Deity TC-1 timecode generator.
